Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics. persen, persen forte are herbal preparations with a mild sedative effect.
The combination of substances has a weak sedative effect and is indicated for the elimination of weak transient nervous tension (as a daily sedative for mental stress, excited state, irritability).
Valerian has a sedative effect. It has a positive effect on well-being with symptoms of irritability, such as restlessness, excitement and tension due to nervous overload. In case of insomnia, it helps to fall asleep faster. Melissa also has a sedative and antispasmodic effect.
Peppermint is traditionally used in combination with valerian in sedative preparations.
Persen, Persen forte are used for neuroses, when taking strong sedatives is impractical. Indications for use are determined solely on the basis of long-term experience.
Persen Cardio is a herbal preparation with a mild sedative effect.
The drug contains dry extracts of passionflower grass and hawthorn leaves and flowers.
Preparations containing passionflower herb are used for temporary mental overload, excited state and insomnia.
Hawthorn leaf and flower extract increases cardiac conduction, improves coronary blood flow and vascular circulation, prevents cardiac arrhythmia and moderately lowers blood pressure.
The effectiveness of the combination of these plants is based on their traditional use. The effects of medicinal plants are mutually complementary. The combination exhibits moderate sedative and cardiotonic activity.
Person Knight. Valerian and passionflower roots have a calming effect on minor anxiety and tension caused by moderate stress, and also facilitate falling asleep.

Indication
Persen, Persen forte is prescribed for neuroses accompanied by the following symptoms:
- jitters;
- concern;
- tension caused by stress;
- sleep disorders
Persen cardio: temporary mild forms of mental tension, anxiety and excitability. Functional disorders of the heart and circulatory system associated with stress (for example, a feeling of increased heartbeat).
Persen Night is prescribed as a sleeping aid.
Application
Person. adults and children over 12 years of age: in case of mental stress, excitement or irritability, it is recommended to use 3 tablets 3 times a day; with insomnia – 3 tablets 1 hour before bedtime.
Tablets should be swallowed whole with water, regardless of food intake.
Persen Forte. Adults and children over 12 years of age: in case of mental stress, excitement or irritability, it is recommended to use 2 capsules 2 times a day; with insomnia – 2 capsules 1 hour before bedtime.

The drug is characterized by a gradual manifestation of action. To achieve the optimal treatment effect, it is recommended to use it for at least 14 days.
The term of treatment is not limited. Even with long-term use of the drug, addiction is not observed. After stopping the treatment, there is no withdrawal syndrome.
If after 14 days from the start of treatment the condition has not improved, you should consult a doctor.
Persen cardio. Adults and children over 12 years old. The recommended dose is 1 capsule per day. If necessary, the dose can be increased to 1 capsule 2 times a day. The maximum daily dose is 2 capsules.
Capsules should be taken before meals (in 1 hour) with water.
To achieve the optimal therapeutic effect, the drug should be taken for at least 6 weeks. If after 6 weeks of treatment the patient’s condition has worsened or has not improved, you should consult a doctor.
Persen Knight Adults and children over 12 years of age: 1 capsule 30 minutes before bedtime.

Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to valerian, lemon balm, peppermint, passionflower, hawthorn or other components of the drug. marked arterial hypotension, bradycardia, etc. depression or other conditions accompanied by depression of the central nervous system.
Side effects
Gastrointestinal tract: the frequency cannot be estimated – nausea, spasms; exacerbation of heartburn is possible.
Drowsiness, asthenic manifestations (weakness, decreased mood and work capacity, suppression of emotional reactions), dizziness, depression are very rarely noted. If other side effects occur (for example, hypersensitivity reactions, including rash, itching, hives, redness and swelling of the skin), you should consult a doctor.
Special instructions
The drug should be used with caution in patients with severe liver dysfunction or a history of severe liver disease.
Patients with gastroesophageal reflux (heartburn) should avoid the use of preparations containing peppermint leaves, as it may worsen their condition.
Patients with gallstone disease or other diseases of the bile ducts and gall bladder should be prescribed preparations containing peppermint leaves with special care.
The drug contains lactose, so it should not be used in patients with rare hereditary galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome.
1 tablet contains 14 mg of glucose and 67 mg of sucrose, 1 capsule contains 35 g of glucose, so the drug should not be prescribed to patients with rare hereditary forms of fructose intolerance, sucrase-isomaltase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome.
During the use of the drug, you should refrain from drinking alcoholic beverages.
Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The effectiveness and safety of use during pregnancy and breastfeeding have not been established, so it is not recommended to use the drug during this period.
Children. There are no data on the use of the drug in children under 12 years of age, so it is not recommended to use it in this category of patients.
The ability to influence the speed of reaction when driving a motor vehicle or working with other mechanisms. The drug can affect the ability to drive vehicles and mechanisms, therefore, during its use, it is recommended to refrain from driving vehicles or other mechanisms until individual sensitivity is determined.
Interactions
Data on interactions with other medicinal products are limited. before using the drug simultaneously with other drugs, you should consult a doctor.
No clinically significant interaction with active substances that are metabolized by CYP 2D6, CYP 3A4 / 5, CYP 1A2 or CYP 2E1 was found.
Simultaneous use with synthetic sedatives (benzodiazepines) without consulting a doctor is not recommended.
With simultaneous use, the effect of other sedatives and hypnotics, antispasmodic, analgesic, anxiolytic drugs, alcohol may be enhanced.
Overdose
Symptoms a dose of about 20 g of valerian root, which is equivalent to about 103 Persen tablets and 42 Persen Forte capsules, may cause minor symptoms such as fatigue, spasms, chest tightness, dizziness, hand tremors, dilated pupils. these symptoms disappear within 24 hours. with an overdose of drugs containing valerian, headache, drowsiness, lethargy, general weakness, abdominal pain, nausea, decreased hearing and visual acuity, bradycardia / tachycardia, decreased concentration of attention, increased sedative effect may also occur.
There are no reports of overdoses of lemon balm leaves and peppermint.
Treatment is symptomatic (gastric lavage, taking activated charcoal).
