Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics.

Atoxil is an enterosorbent with pronounced sorption properties, exhibits detoxification, antimicrobial and wound healing effects. Adsorbs from the digestive tract and removes toxic substances of various origins (endogenous and exogenous) from the body, including:

  • various types of allergens (food and bacterial);
  • various types of toxic substances and microbial endotoxins;
  • products that have toxic properties for the body, which are formed in humans during the process of protein decay in the intestines.

This drug promotes the transport of various toxic products, including oligopeptides, amines, medium molecules, and other substances, from the internal environment of the body, namely blood, lymph, interstitium (stroma) into the digestive tract due to gradients (concentration and osmotic), with their subsequent elimination from the body.

Pharmacokinetics.

The drug is practically not absorbed in the intestines.

Indication

Acute intestinal diseases accompanied by diarrheal syndrome (this can be salmonellosis, food poisoning), and is also widely used in the complex therapy of viral hepatitis A and B. It can also be used externally as an external treatment for purulent wounds, trophic ulcers, burns of various origins.

Contraindication

Hypersensitivity to silicon dioxide (the main component of the drug), gastric and duodenal ulcers, if they are in the acute stage; intestinal ulcers and erosions; intestinal obstruction.

Interaction with other drugs and other types of interactions.

If you take Atoxyl in combination with acetylsalicylic acid, then the process of platelet disaggregation in the human body is enhanced. But in complex therapy with nicotinic acid and simvastatin, Atoxyl exhibits a synergistic effect – it contributes to ↓ levels of atherogenic fractions of the blood lipid spectrum and ↑ levels of HDL cholesterol. If Atoxyl is prescribed for intracorporeal sorption detoxification in combination with standard antiseptic solutions (this can be furatsilin, bifuran, trifuran, chlorhexidine bigluconate), then due to such a competently combined appointment, the effectiveness of the treatment of purulent-inflammatory diseases increases.

Application features

Attention! The use of dry powder internally is prohibited!!!.

During complex therapy, when combined with other drugs, Atoxil should be taken 1 hour before taking other drugs that are used per os, due to their possible absorption and, as a result, a decrease in the effectiveness of the drugs taken in combination.

Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding

Due to the lack of data on the use of Atoxil during periods when a woman is expecting a child or is already breastfeeding, the use of the drug is not recommended (because there is no data on its use).

The ability to influence reaction speed when driving various categories of cars or when working with various kinds of mechanical devices.

No effect.

Method of administration and doses

Oral use. Dosage for adults and children.

  • In the form of a suspension, administer only orally: mix the contents of 1-2 sachets (by weight, this is somewhere in the range of 2-4 g) thoroughly in 50-100 ml (¼-½ cup) of neutral still or cooled boiled water until a homogeneous suspension is formed.
  • Or, if it is a bottle with contents, open it, add neutral still or cooled boiled water to the powder to the 250 ml mark, and mix well until a homogeneous suspension is formed.
  • The daily dose for adults and children ↑ 7 years is 12 g, but if it is very necessary (critical cases) the daily dose can be increased to ↑ 24 g.
  • For children in the age range of 1 – 7 years, the daily dose ranges from 150-200 mg per 1 kg of body weight. The daily dose should be divided into 3-4 doses. The maximum single dose should not exceed 1/2 of the daily dose.
  • The resulting aqueous suspension of the drug is taken orally 1 hour before meals or before taking other concomitant medications.
  • If the intestinal disease has occurred acutely, then the dose for adults and children ↑ 7 years old should be started immediately with the maximum single dose, which is 7 g, the drug should be taken 2-3 times a day. If the patient cannot take the enterosorbent on his own, the Atoxil suspension should be administered into the stomach through a tube.
  • In acute intestinal diseases, the course of treatment is 3-5 days. In severe cases, the treatment period may be ↑ and extended to 10-15 days.
  • The course of treatment for viral hepatitis depends on the severity of the disease and is in the range of 7-10 days.
