Azithromycin is a semi-synthetic antibacterial drug (antibiotic) with a broad spectrum of action. It belongs to the second-generation macrolides. The active ingredient of Azithromycin coincides with its trade name – it is azithromycin.
Azithromycin tablets are indicated for infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to azithromycin:
Active ingredient: azithromycin.
1 film-coated tablet contains azithromycin equivalent to 500 mg of azithromycin anhydrous.
Excipients: microcrystalline cellulose, calcium hydrogen phosphate, corn starch, povidone, magnesium stearate, talc, colloidal silicon dioxide, sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium starch (type A).
Hypersensitivity to azithromycin or other macrolide and ketolide antibiotics and excipients of the drug. Due to the theoretical possibility of ergotism, azithromycin should not be prescribed simultaneously with ergot derivatives.
Adults and children weighing more than 45 kg. Azithromycin should be taken 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal, as simultaneous administration with food disrupts its absorption. The drug is taken once a day. Swallow the tablets without chewing.
Not prescribed.
The drug should be used in children weighing ≥ 45 kg. Children weighing ≤ 45 kg should be prescribed azithromycin in another dosage form, such as a suspension.
It is not recommended to use if necessary to drive vehicles and work with other mechanisms.
Experience with clinical use of azithromycin suggests that the side effects that develop when taking higher than recommended doses of the drug are similar to those observed when using conventional therapeutic doses. Typical symptoms of overdose: reversible hearing impairment, severe nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.
In case of overdose, it is necessary to take activated charcoal and conduct symptomatic therapy aimed at supporting the body’s vital functions.
Azithromycin should be administered with caution to patients taking other drugs that may prolong the QT interval.
Store in the original packaging at a temperature not exceeding 30 °C.
Keep out of reach of children.
Shelf life – 2 years.
