Optinol 0.21% eye drops (1 ml per bottle) increase the stability of the precorneal tear film, have a positive effect on the epithelial layer, help increase tear volume and corneal hydration, and reduce tear evaporation from the ocular surface.
Active components
The main goal in eliminating dry eye is to increase the stability and volume of the precorneal tear film. Hyaluronic acid, which is included in Optinol in the form of sodium hyaluronate, has a chemical structure, molecular weight, and rheological properties similar to mucin, a component of human tears. Due to its properties, hyaluronic acid moisturizes the eye without impairing vision. In addition, its ability to bind water allows it to keep the ocular surface moist.
When applied topically, hyaluronic acid increases the stability of the precorneal tear film, has a positive effect on the epithelial layer, promotes an increase in tear volume and corneal hydration, and reduces tear evaporation from the ocular surface.
Sodium hyaluronate is not absorbed after topical application.
Indications for use
Optinol 0.21% eye drops are indicated for:
- Symptomatic treatment of dryness of the cornea and conjunctiva (dry eye syndrome).
- Temporary relief of burning and irritation caused by dry eyes, and as protection against further irritation.
- Temporary relief of discomfort caused by minor eye irritation:
- exposure to wind, sun, smoke, central heating, air conditioning, fluorescent lighting, prolonged computer use, wearing contact lenses;
- after the use of medicinal products that may cause dryness and irritation of the ocular surface;
- in diseases and conditions that may cause dryness and discomfort in the eye.
Method of use
Instill 1–2 drops into each eye 3 times a day. After instillation, blink several times so that the solution is evenly distributed over the entire surface of the eye. With each blink, sodium hyaluronate forms a protective film on the ocular surface.
If necessary, the frequency of instillation may be increased, since Optinol does not contain preservatives. A significant increase in the frequency of use of Optinol products (for example, more than 10 times a day) is permitted only as prescribed by an ophthalmologist and under medical supervision.
The duration of use is determined by the physician individually.
Special instructions
Optinol is compatible with all types of contact lenses and may provide a feeling of comfort when wearing them. When using Optinol 0.21%, contact lenses do not need to be removed during instillation. The Optinol eye drop bottle is equipped with a filter that protects the contents from contamination for 180 days after opening. Optinol is intended for individual use by one person only. In cases of severe or persistent dry eye, consultation with a physician is required.
