Pharmacodynamics. Benzalkonium chloride is a quaternary ammonium compound with spermicidal and antiseptic properties. Its contraceptive effect is associated with its ability to destroy sperm membranes. When the active ingredient Pharmatex comes into contact with sperm, their immediate immobilization occurs due to a significant disruption of the surface tension of the sperm membrane, loss of the flagellum, lysis of the sperm head membrane with its destruction and subsequent detachment of the head. The contraceptive effect is enhanced by coagulation and thickening of the cervical mucus, thus creating an additional barrier for the ejaculate to enter the uterine cavity.

The drug also has antiseptic and antimicrobial effects, reducing the risk of sexually transmitted infections, but does not completely eliminate it.

Does not affect libido and fertility.

Contraceptive effectiveness is measured by the Pearl Index and it has been clinically proven that for Pharmatex it is 1. That is, if used correctly and all requirements are met, the frequency of unwanted pregnancy is about 1% per year.

After stopping the drug, the possibility of conception is restored.

According to the results of many studies, it has been established that the drug does not penetrate into blood plasma and breast milk (when used in recommended doses) due to the lack of absorption of benzalkonium chloride by the vaginal mucosa. This indicates that the effect of the drug is exclusively local.

Local contraception. This method of contraception can be used by all women of reproductive age. The product is used both independently and in combination with other methods, which enhances their contraceptive effect.

It is advisable to use Pharmatex:

• if there are temporary or permanent contraindications to oral contraception or intrauterine systems, for example, after childbirth, during breastfeeding, after abortion and during menopause;
• if episodic pregnancy prevention is necessary (irregular sexual life);
• when using oral contraception, if the woman forgot or was late in taking the pill (in this case, it is necessary to additionally use Pharmatex on any day of the cycle);
• as an adjunct to barrier contraception (vaginal diaphragm) or the presence of an intrauterine system, especially with the simultaneous use of certain medications (e.g. nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs).

Cream. Before using the cream, place the dosing applicator on the end of the tube. Fill it completely (up to the ring mark) so that no air bubbles form. Disconnect the tube from the applicator and insert the cream as deep as possible into the vagina, slowly pressing the piston. The protective effect of the cream begins immediately and lasts for 10 hours, protecting the woman for one sexual act. In case of repeated sexual intercourse, a new dose of Farmatex cream must be administered.

The number of doses that can be used during the day is not limited.

Suppositories. Remove the suppository from the protective packaging. Insert it as deeply as possible into the vagina while lying down. The suppository dissolves 5 minutes after insertion and is effective for 4 hours, the contraceptive effect lasts for one sexual act. In case of repeated sexual intercourse, a new Pharmatex suppository must be inserted.

Application features:

1. Carefully remove the suppository from the protective packaging.

2. Lie on your back.

3. Insert the suppository as deep as possible into the vagina.

It should be noted that Pharmatex suppositories have a moderate moisturizing effect.

There is no limit to the number of suppositories that can be used during the day.

Tablets. The Pharmatex vaginal tablet must be well moistened with water for rapid dissolution. In the supine position, insert the moistened tablet as deeply as possible into the vagina. The drug begins to act 10 minutes after administration and lasts at least 3 hours. In the event of repeated sexual intercourse, the next tablet must be administered (regardless of the time elapsed since the previous administration of the drug).

Application features:

1. Lie on your back.

2. Insert the tablet moistened in water as deeply as possible into the vagina.

There is no limit to the number of tablets that can be used during the day.

Hypersensitivity (allergic reactions or irritant effects) to the components of the drug, vaginitis, ulcers and irritation of the mucous membrane of the vagina and cervix. Inability to properly use vaginal tablets by persons with mental disorders and persons who do not tolerate any interventions on the genitals, or those who are unable to understand and accept this type of contraception.

When using Pharmatex according to indications, the risk of side effects is minimal, but patients with hypersensitivity to the components of the drug may experience allergic reactions, irritation, tingling, a feeling of warmth at the injection site, as well as contact dermatitis, itching and burning in the vagina and / or penis of the partner, painful urination. In case of their occurrence, it is necessary to stop using Pharmatex.

The effectiveness of contraception depends on the correct use of the drug. After sexual intercourse and for 2 hours before and 2 hours after sexual intercourse, external toileting is allowed using clean water or a soap-free product compatible with Pharmatex local contraceptives (for example, foam). Douching, as well as washing in a bath or in a reservoir, is possible no earlier than 2 hours after sexual intercourse in order to prevent the drug from being washed away with water.

In case of vaginal diseases, the use of Pharmatex should be temporarily discontinued until the end of treatment with vaginal medications.

Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Since the drug is a contraceptive, its use during pregnancy is inappropriate. In the event of pregnancy against the background of contraception with benzalkonium chloride, no effect on the course of pregnancy was detected.

The drug does not penetrate into breast milk and can be used during breastfeeding.

Children. Pharmatex is not prescribed for children.

Effects on ability to drive and use machines: No effects on the ability to drive or use machines have been observed.

It is not recommended to use the drug Pharmatex simultaneously with other intravaginal agents: any other drugs introduced into the vagina may reduce the contraceptive effect of Pharmatex.

Benzalkonium chloride is destroyed by soap, so Pharmatex is incompatible with soap even in minimal quantities.

No cases of overdose have been identified.
