Streptocide is used for the prevention and treatment of wound infections (wounds, ulcers, bedsores), burns; for the treatment of pyorrhea, enterocolitis, pyelitis, cystitis, and tonsillitis caused by pathogens sensitive to Streptocide.
Composition
Active ingredient: sulfonamide; 1 tablet contains sulfonamides 0.5 mg
Excipients: potato starch, calcium stearate.
Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, diseases of the hematopoietic system, nephrosis, nephritis, Graves’ disease. In this form, the drug is not used in children under 3 years of age.
Method of application
It is administered orally 30 minutes before meals. It is prescribed at a dose of 0.5-1 g 5-6 times a day, a total of 3-6 g per day. The duration of the course of treatment is 3-5 days.
- children aged 3 to 5 years – 0.25 g 5-6 times a day
- from 6 to 12 years old – 0.25-0.5 g 5-6 times a day
- from 12 to 18 years old – 0.5-0.75 g 5-6 times a day.
Maximum doses for adults: single dose – 2 g, daily dose – 7 g.
- from 3 to 5 years, single dose – 0.75 g, daily dose – 2 g
- from 6 to 12 years old, single dose – 1.25 g, daily dose – 3 g
- from 12 to 18 years old, single dose – 1.5 g, daily dose – 4 g
Application features
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
During pregnancy, streptocide can be used in cases where the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the risk to the child. Breastfeeding should be discontinued while taking the drug.
Impact on the ability to drive vehicles or operate complex mechanisms.
If dizziness occurs during treatment, you should refrain from driving or operating machinery.
Overdose
Overdose may cause nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headache, cyanosis, tachycardia, paresthesia, diarrhea, cholestasis, hematuria, and renal failure with anuria.
Side effects
When taking Streptocide orally, headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and possible development of cyanosis are sometimes noted. Taking a large amount of the drug can cause changes in the hematopoietic system (leukopenia, agranulocytosis), sometimes paresthesia, tachycardia, as well as dermatitis, diarrhea.
Interaction
Novocaine, which contains a para-aminobenzoic acid residue, and some other drugs of the same chemical composition can have an anti-sulfanamide effect, which must be taken into account when prescribing Streptocide.
Storage conditions
Store in a dry place, protected from light and out of reach of children at a temperature of 15 °C to 25 °C.
