Composition
active substance: 1 tablet contains valerian thick extract (Valerianae extractum spissum) 3.5:1 (extractant 40% (v/v) ethanol) in terms of dry matter – 40 mg;
excipients: lactose, monohydrate (granulac – 70); croscarmellose sodium; light magnesium carbonate; castor oil; calcium stearate; talc; coating mixture “Opaglos II Yellow” 97W22039 (carmellose sodium (sodium carboxymethylcellulose); dextrin; glucose, monohydrate; titanium dioxide (E 171); lecithin; quinoline yellow (E 104); yellow sunset FCF (E 110)).

Film-coated tablets.
Pharmacological properties
The drug valerian forte reduces the excitability of the central nervous system. the effect is due to the content of essential oil, most of which is a complex ester of borneol alcohol and isovaleric acid. sedative properties are also manifested by valepotriates and alkaloids – valerine and hotinine. the sedative effect is manifested slowly, but quite steadily. valeric acid and valepotriates have a weak antispasmodic effect. the drug practically does not cause a feeling of fatigue, does not affect mental and physical performance.
Indication
Increased nervous excitability, insomnia; as part of combined therapy for mild functional disorders of the cardiovascular system.
Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to valerian and/or other components of the drug; depression or other conditions accompanied by depression of the central nervous system.
Method of application
Inside, adults and children over 12 years old take 1-2 tablets 3 times a day. the duration of treatment is determined by the doctor individually. tablets should be taken without chewing, washed down with liquid.
Special instructions
During the use of the drug, it is necessary to refrain from drinking alcoholic beverages.
The drug contains lactose, so it should not be used in patients with rare hereditary forms of galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome.
The drug contains glucose, which should be taken into account by patients with diabetes.
Patients with severe functional impairment or a history of severe liver disease should be cautious when taking the drug.
Specific sensitivity to the smell of valerian may be observed.
Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It is not recommended to use the drug due to the lack of data on the safety of use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Children. Taking into account the limited clinical experience, the use of valerian in children under 12 years of age is not recommended.
The ability to influence the speed of reaction when driving a motor vehicle or working with other mechanisms. When using the drug, you should refrain from driving vehicles and working with potentially dangerous mechanisms.
Overdose
Symptoms: headache, dizziness, drowsiness, lethargy, general weakness, abdominal pain, nausea, hand tremors, pupil dilation, reduced hearing and vision, chest tightness may occur.
Treatment: stop using the drug, wash the stomach, take activated charcoal. If necessary, carry out symptomatic therapy.
Side effects
The drug is usually well tolerated, but sometimes drowsiness, a feeling of depression, reduced work capacity, dizziness, headache, and nausea may occur, which pass when the dose is reduced or (in case of their severity) the drug is discontinued.
With individual hypersensitivity to the drug, the development of local allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling and hyperemia of the skin) is possible.
Interactions
Valerian enhances the effect of alcohol, sleeping pills, sedatives, anxiolytics and antispasmodics.
Storage conditions
In the original packaging at a temperature not higher than 25 °C.
