Pharmacological properties
Tetryzoline, when applied externally, stimulates α-adrenoreceptors of the sympathetic nervous system, which causes vasoconstriction with a decrease in tissue edema; reduces the severity of burning, irritation, itching, soreness, and tearing.
The vasoconstrictor effect develops a few minutes after instillation into the eye and lasts up to 4 hours.
Tetryzoline is practically not absorbed when applied topically in therapeutic doses.
Indication
Symptomatic treatment of edema and secondary hyperemia due to moderate irritant effects on the conjunctiva of smoke, dust, chlorinated water, allergic reactions, nonspecific or catarrhal conjunctivitis.
Application
DO NOT screw the cap tightly before use!
Before first use, screw the cap as tightly as possible. The spike on the inside of the cap pierces a hole in the bottle. Immediately before use, hold the bottle in your hand to warm it to body temperature.
Unscrew the cap, remove it, and, by lightly pressing on the bottle body, drop the solution into the eyes (conjunctival cavity).
To avoid spontaneous leakage of the solution during storage, after instillation of the drug, screw the cap tightly so that the spike on the inside of the cap closes the hole in the bottle. Store the drug according to the recommendations specified in the Storage section (in an upright position).
Viale is intended for topical use only.
Adults and children over 6 years of age should instill 1-2 drops into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye(s) 2 or 3 times a day.
Children under 6 years of age should use the drug only under the supervision of a physician.
Continuous use of the drug is recommended for no more than 72 hours in a row.
Contraindication
- Hypersensitivity to tetryzoline or other components of the drug, angle-closure glaucoma, epidermal-endothelial corneal dystrophy, age up to 2 years.
Side effects
Systemic effects are usually not observed.
After using the drug Viale, isolated side effects are noted: burning sensation, stinging, conjunctival irritation, reactive hyperemia, and in rare cases, mydriasis.
Sometimes sympathomimetic effects may occur (increased and rapid heartbeat, increased blood pressure, narrowing of blood vessels).
Individual intolerance to the drug is possible.
Special instructions
Viale should only be used for mild eye irritation.
Before using drops for children aged 2 to 6 years, you should consult a doctor.
If signs of eye irritation persist for 48 hours, discontinue use of the drug. If irritation or redness is associated with serious eye diseases (e.g., infections, foreign bodies, or chemical corneal injury), the patient is also advised to consult a doctor. If intense eye pain, headache, rapid vision loss, sudden appearance of “floating” spots before the eyes, eye redness, eye pain when exposed to light, or double vision occurs, consult a doctor immediately.
Prolonged use of the drug and overdose should be avoided, especially in children.
Contact lenses should be removed before instillation of the drug, taking into account the possibility of reducing their transparency.
Very frequent use of the drug may cause eye redness.
Patients with severe cardiovascular diseases (CHD, hypertension), pheochromocytoma, metabolic disorders (hyperthyroidism, diabetes mellitus), as well as patients taking MAO inhibitors or other drugs that can increase blood pressure, should be prescribed the drug only in cases where the possible benefit outweighs the potential risk.
Viale can be used in combination with other eye drops no earlier than 15 minutes after instillation of the drug.
Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Given the small possibility of developing general reactions, the drug can be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding only if, in the opinion of the doctor, the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the possible risk to the fetus/child.
The ability to influence the reaction speed when driving or working with other mechanisms. Sometimes after using the drug, pupil dilation and blurred vision are observed, in such cases it is recommended to drive or work with other mechanisms after restoring visual clarity.
Children. Contraindicated in children under 2 years of age.
Interactions
Do not mix Viale eye drops with any other drops. Tetrizoline is incompatible with MAO inhibitors.
Direct contact with soft contact lenses should be avoided, given the risk of disturbing their transparency.
Overdose
When used according to the instructions, an overdose of eye drops is impossible.
Overdose due to ingestion or excessive use of the drug may cause bradycardia, drowsiness, hypotension, lethargy and decreased body temperature. In addition, apnea, central nervous system depression and coma may occur if the drops are swallowed.
Symptomatic and supportive therapy is carried out. In the treatment of overdose or ingestion of the drug, activated charcoal and gastric lavage are used. There is no known specific antidote.
Storage conditions
In a place protected from light at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C.
