Pharmacological properties

Otinum – a drug with anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects for local use in otology. Choline salicylate is a derivative of salicylic acid. Inhibits the activity of COX – the enzyme responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins, – the synthesis of thromboxane and prostacyclin. Glycerin, which is part of the drug, helps soften and facilitate the removal of earwax. When used locally, the drug does not have a systemic effect.

Indication

Acute otitis externa and chronic otitis in the acute phase, acute otitis media, tympanitis. can also be used before rinsing the external auditory canal to remove wax.

Application

Adults with acute otitis media and tympanitis are usually prescribed 3-4 drops in the external auditory canal 3-4 times a day. The duration of treatment depends on the course of the disease.

To soften the wax plug before removing it from the ear, 3-4 drops are prescribed into the external auditory canal 2 times a day for 4 days.

After instillation, the patient should remain in a position with the ear up for several minutes.

In children under 1 year of age, the drug can be used only under the supervision of a doctor. Children and elderly patients are prescribed the same dose as adults.

Contraindication

Hypersensitivity to salicylates or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (including aspirin asthma), perforation of the eardrum, pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Side effects

Allergic reactions (itching, redness of the skin in the ear). Prolonged use of the drug, as well as perforation of the eardrum in patients, can damage your hearing.

Special instructions

Salicylic acid derivatives, if they enter the middle ear through a damaged eardrum, can cause hearing loss or deafness. Therefore, the drug should not be used without prior otoscopy.
