Gofen 200 is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and antirheumatic medicine. It has analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory effects. Indicated for symptomatic treatment of headache, dental pain, menstrual pain, fever and muscle pain associated with colds.

Composition

Active ingredient: ibuprofen.
One soft capsule contains 200 mg ibuprofen.

Excipients: polyethylene glycol 600, potassium hydroxide, purified water.
Capsule shell: gelatin, sorbitol solution non-crystallising (E420), purified water.

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to ibuprofen or any component of the product.
• History of bronchospasm, asthma, rhinitis, angioedema or skin reactions associated with acetylsalicylic acid or other NSAIDs.
• Concurrent use with other NSAIDs, including selective COX-2 inhibitors.
• History of gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation associated with NSAID use.
• Active peptic ulcer disease or history of recurrent ulcers/bleeding (two or more confirmed episodes).
• Severe renal, hepatic, or cardiac failure (NYHA class IV).
• Children weighing < 20 kg.
• Patients with cerebrovascular or other active forms of bleeding.
• Patients with unexplained hematopoietic disorders.
• Dehydration caused by vomiting, diarrhea or inadequate fluid intake.
• Last trimester of pregnancy.

Dosage and Administration

Adults and children ≥ 40 kg:
Recommended initial dose: 1–2 capsules (200–400 mg). If necessary, repeat 1–2 capsules (200–400 mg) every 4–6 hours. Do not exceed 6 capsules (1200 mg) in 24 hours.

Children (weight 20–39 kg):
Use only for children weighing at least 20 kg. Maximum daily dose: 20–30 mg/kg divided into 3–4 doses at 6–8 hour intervals. Do not exceed the maximum daily dose.

• Children 20–29 kg: initial dose — 1 capsule (200 mg). Max daily dose — 3 capsules (600 mg).
• Children 30–39 kg: initial dose — 1 capsule (200 mg). Max daily dose — 4 capsules (800 mg).

Capsules should generally be taken with food, swallowed whole with water. Elderly patients usually do not require dose adjustment.

If symptoms persist for more than 3 days (or more than 4 days when used for pain relief), consult a physician for diagnosis and treatment adjustment. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest period necessary to control symptoms to minimise adverse effects.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Pregnancy: During the 1st and 2nd trimesters, ibuprofen should be used only if the physician judges that the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus. Dose and duration should be as low and short as possible. Ibuprofen is contraindicated in the 3rd trimester.

Breastfeeding: Ibuprofen and its metabolites may pass into breast milk in low concentrations. No harmful effects on infants are known; therefore, short-term use at recommended doses usually does not require stopping breastfeeding.

Special Populations

Children: Contraindicated in children weighing less than 20 kg.

Driving and operating machinery: Short-term use has no or negligible effect on driving or operating machinery, but long-term use may cause side effects (fatigue, dizziness) that can impair these abilities.

Side Effects

Clinical data indicate that high doses of ibuprofen (e.g., 2400 mg/day) may be associated with a slightly increased risk of arterial thrombotic events (such as myocardial infarction or stroke). Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest necessary period. See leaflet for full list of adverse reactions.

Storage

Store at temperatures not exceeding 25°C in the original packaging. Keep out of reach of children.
