Synthomycin – an antibiotic for topical use. Chloramphenicol.
Indications for use
Local treatment of purulent-inflammatory skin lesions (carbuncles, boils), purulent wounds, trophic ulcers that do not heal for a long time, second- and third-degree burns, cracked nipples in women in labor.
Composition
- active ingredient: 1 g of liniment contains chloramphenicol (synthomycin) – 50 mg;
- excipients: castor oil, emulsifier No. 1, sorbic acid, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, purified water;
- excipients included in emulsifier No. 1: cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol.
Contraindication
Individual hypersensitivity to any components of the drug.
Psoriasis, eczema, fungal skin diseases.
Adverse reactions
Allergic reactions are possible (including skin rashes, itching, burning sensation, hyperemia, edema).
Method of application
Gauze swabs are soaked with the drug or a thin layer is applied directly to the affected area. A regular bandage is applied on top, it is possible with parchment or compress paper. Bandages are carried out depending on the indications after 1-3 days, sometimes after 4-5 days. The duration of treatment is determined by the doctor individually.
In case of cracked nipples in women in labor, after each feeding, the nipples are washed with a 0.25% solution of ammonia, then a sterile napkin covered with a layer of liniment is applied to the crack. This quickly relieves sharp pain and the cracks heal 2-5 days after the start of treatment.
Application features
Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding
Since the pharmacokinetics of Synthomycin have not been studied, the drug should be used with caution during pregnancy and only when, in the opinion of the doctor, the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus.
During the treatment of cracked nipples in postpartum women, breastfeeding does not need to be stopped.
Before breastfeeding, any remaining product from the nipple and surrounding skin should be removed with a clean cloth, and the nipple should be washed thoroughly and gently.
Children
Not prescribed to children in the first 4 weeks of life.
Ability to influence reaction speed when driving vehicles or other mechanisms
Does not affect.
Overdose
Symptoms: possible increase in side effects of the drug.
Treatment: symptomatic.
Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions
Simultaneous use of the drug with erythromycin, oleandomycin, nystatin and levorin increases the antibacterial activity of the liniment, and with benzylpenicillin salts – reduces it. The drug is incompatible with sulfonamides.
The drug is incompatible with cytostatics, diphenyl, barbiturates and pyrazolone derivatives, and ethanol.
Storage conditions
Store in the original packaging at a temperature not exceeding 25 ° C. Do not freeze.
Keep out of reach of children.
After opening the tube, store the drug for the duration of the course of treatment.
