Symptoms of hypercalcemia may include: anorexia, thirst, nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, mental disorders, polydipsia, polyuria, bone pain, renal calcification, kidney stones, and in severe cases – cardiac arrhythmia. Excessive hypercalcemia can lead to coma and death. Prolonged high calcium levels can lead to irreversible kidney damage and soft tissue calcification.
Treatment of hypercalcemia: the use of calcium and vitamin D3 should be discontinued.
Side effects
- Immune system disorders: Cases of allergic reactions such as angioedema or laryngeal edema have been reported.
- Metabolism and nutrition disorders: Uncommon: hypercalcaemia and hypercalciuria.

- Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders: Rare: pruritus, rash and urticaria.
Interaction
Combinations requiring caution when used:
- Digitalis (digitalis). Risk of arrhythmia. Oral calcium in combination with vitamin D increases the toxicity of digitalis. Close medical supervision is required and, if necessary, monitoring of electrocardiogram and blood calcium levels.
- Bisphosphonates. Risk of reduced absorption of bisphosphonates in the gastrointestinal tract. It is recommended to take calcium supplements no earlier than 2 hours after taking bisphosphonates.
- Diuretics. Decreased urinary calcium excretion. Monitoring of blood calcium levels is recommended.
