Dentol
Pharmacological action:
Benzocaine, which is the active ingredient of Dentol, is a local anesthetic. It blocks the conduction of nerve impulses, reduces the permeability of cell membranes to sodium ions, thereby providing complete anesthesia of the skin and mucous membranes.
The action of Dentol begins 1 minute after application of the drug, the duration of action is 20 minutes. The absorbed drug is subjected to rapid hydrolytic cleavage by blood plasma cholinesterase and to a lesser extent by liver cholinesterase to metabolites containing para-aminobenzoic acid. The route of excretion is through the kidneys, mainly in the form of metabolites.
