Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics. Mucaltin tablets are an effective expectorant, the action of which is determined by secretolytic and broncholytic properties. the drug has a moderate antitussive effect, reduces the number of coughing attacks and their intensity. also has softening, anti-inflammatory and enveloping properties. normalizes altered bronchopulmonary secretion, improves sputum secretion: reduces its viscosity and adhesive properties, facilitates the movement of sputum from the lower to the upper parts of the respiratory tract and its expectoration.

Mucaltin syrup from althea root extract contains polysaccharides as the main active ingredient, as well as pectins, amino acids and starch. The drug has a bronchosecretory, expectorant and enveloping effect. Stimulates (reflexively) secretion of bronchial and salivary glands. Activates the formation of sputum, normalizes its rheological properties – such as viscosity, elasticity, adhesiveness, strengthens the peristalsis of bronchioles and the motility of the ciliated epithelium of the bronchi, causing cytoprotective and anti-inflammatory effects, promotes tissue regeneration.

Indication

Tablets: treatment of cough in acute and chronic diseases of the respiratory tract, which are accompanied by the formation of thick and viscous sputum and / or violation of its discharge (bronchitis, pneumonia, ba, bronchiectasis).

Syrup: cough in acute and chronic diseases of the respiratory tract (bronchitis, laryngitis, tracheitis, bronchial asthma, whooping cough).

Application

Tablets: without chewing, take with a large amount of water.

Adults and children over 12 years old – 2 tablets each. 4 times a day before meals. Doses for children aged 1-3 years – 1 tablet each. 3 times a day, 3-12 years – 1 tablet. 4 times a day.

When used for children, the drug can be dissolved in a third of a glass of warm water (if desired, add sugar or fruit syrup).

The duration of the therapy course is from 7 days to 1-2 months, depending on the form of the disease.

Syrup: used for food.

Adults and children over 14 years of age take 15 ml of syrup 4-6 times a day.

Children aged 6-14 years: 10 ml of syrup 4-6 times a day

Children aged 2-6 years: 5 ml of syrup 4-6 times a day.

The duration of the therapy course is 7-14 days.

Contraindication

Increased sensitivity to the components of the drug.

Side effects

Allergic reactions, hypersalivation, irritation of the gastric mucosa are possible.

Sometimes in patients with chronic inflammatory diseases of the lungs, at the beginning of treatment with Mucaltin in the form of tablets, the viscosity of sputum may increase due to the separation of sputum accumulated in the bronchial tree and containing a large amount of detritus, proteins and inflammatory elements. Therefore, in cases of diffuse lesions of the bronchial tree, significant changes in the physicochemical properties of sputum, and a decrease in mucociliary clearance, Mucaltin therapy should be combined with mucolytic agents (bromhexine, etc.).

Single doses of the drug should be used every 4 hours.

During storage of Mucaltin syrup, precipitation is allowed. Shake before use.

Absorption of medicinal products used together with this drug may decrease. Other drugs must be taken 1 hour before or 1 hour after using Mucaltin in the form of syrup.

Use with caution in diabetes.

Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. There is no information on the experience of using the drug during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Children. The drug in the form of syrup can be used in children over the age of 2 years, in the form of tablets – in children over the age of 1 year.

The ability to influence the speed of reaction when driving vehicles or other mechanisms. The use of the drug does not affect the ability to drive vehicles and work with other mechanisms.

Interactions

Do not use together with antitussives (such as codeine).

Overdose

Tablets: in the case of use in the specified therapeutic doses, overdose is impossible. with a long period of reception or exceeding the indicated doses, nausea and vomiting may occur.

Treatment is symptomatic.

Syrup: there were no cases of overdose.

Storage conditions

Tablets: in a place inaccessible to children at a temperature ≤25 °C in the original packaging.

Syrup: out of the reach of children at a temperature ≤25 °C in the original packaging. After dissection, store at a temperature of 4-8 °C for ≤14 days.
