Main physical and chemical properties: the liquid is transparent, thick and viscous, colorless or slightly yellowish with a faint odor and a peculiar unpleasant taste. In air, it slowly thickens in a thin layer, but does not form a dense or hard film.

When administered internally, it is hydrolyzed by lipase in the small intestine to form ricinoleic acid, which irritates intestinal receptors and reflexively increases its peristalsis. The laxative effect usually occurs after 5-6 hours. The drug also causes reflex contraction of the myometrium.

Hypersensitivity to the drug; hypersensitivity to plants of the euphorbiaceae family; poisoning with fat-soluble substances (phosphorus, benzene, phenol); gastric and duodenal ulcers, ulcerative colitis; poisoning with fat-soluble anthelmintics, male fern extract; acute inflammatory processes in the abdominal cavity (appendicitis, peritonitis); uterine bleeding; cachexia; advanced age; undiagnosed abdominal pain; biliary tract obstruction; severe dehydration.
Interaction with other drugs and other types of interactions.
It is not recommended to use castor oil at the same time as male fern extract.
