Pharmacological properties
Farmazolin belongs to non-selective alpha-adrenomimetics, which locally narrow the vessels of the mucous membrane and reduce the severity of inflammatory processes. when applied to the mucous membrane of the nose, it has an anti-edematous effect, reduces hyperemia and exudation, which facilitates nasal breathing and decreases blood flow in the venous sinuses.
The drug acts mainly locally, it is absorbed through the mucous membranes with normal use in a small amount. The effect of the drug begins after 5-10 minutes and lasts for 5-6 hours.
Indication
Reduction of symptoms of acute rhinitis of various etiologies, sinusitis; auxiliary therapy of acute otitis media (to reduce swelling of the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity); during diagnostic interventions (rhinoscopy).
Application
When using a polyethylene bottle, screw the cap on as much as possible before the first use. at the same time, the spike located on the inside of the cap pierces the hole. the cap is unscrewed, removed and, slightly pressing on the body of the bottle, the solution is instilled into the nose.
When using a polyethylene bottle with opening control, immediately before use, the bottle should be held in the palm of your hand to warm it to body temperature. After instillation, screw the cap tightly.
P-r 0.05%: children aged 3 months to 6 years instill 1-2 drops in each nostril 1-2 times a day (no more than 3 times a day). The duration of treatment depends on the course of the disease and is no more than 10 days in a row.
P-r 0.1%: adults and children older than 6 years instill 2-3 drops in each nostril 3-4 times a day.
The course of treatment depends on the course of the disease and should not exceed 10 consecutive days. After the end of the course of treatment, the drug can be prescribed again only after a few days.
Farmazolin 0.05% should be prescribed to patients who have not previously used vasoconstrictor drugs and to children under the age of 6. In case of insufficient effectiveness, switch to a higher concentration of the drug (0.1%).
Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to any component of the drug, pregnancy, transsphenoidal hypophysectomy or a history of transnasal / transoral surgical interventions with exposure of the dura mater.
Side effects
Possible side effects in the form of burning, tingling, dry nose, sneezing, nausea, shortness of breath, angioedema. in isolated cases, systemic allergic reactions are possible. with long-term use or frequent use of high concentrations, swelling of the nasal mucosa, manifestations of the resorptive effect in the form of dizziness, headache, insomnia, vomiting, increased appetite, palpitations, heart rhythm disorders, and short-term visual impairment may occur. with particularly long-term use of the drug in high doses, a depressive state may develop.
Special instructions
The drug should not be used continuously for long periods (more than 10 days in a row), with chronic rhinitis. long-term treatment with the drug can cause the opposite effect.
Do not exceed the recommended doses of the drug, especially when treating children and the elderly.
It is necessary to prescribe the drug with caution to patients with cardiovascular diseases, patients with hypertension, glaucoma, diabetes mellitus, with diseases of the thyroid gland, patients in whom strong reactions occur when using adrenergic drugs, which are manifested in the form of insomnia, dizziness, tremors, cardiac arrhythmia, increased blood pressure.
Due to the vasoconstrictor effect of the drug, an increase in intraocular pressure is possible.
Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The drug cannot be used during pregnancy.
It is not known whether xylometazoline is excreted in breast milk, therefore, during breastfeeding, the drug can be used only if, in the opinion of the doctor, the expected benefit for the mother exceeds the potential risk for the child.
The ability to influence the speed of reaction when driving a motor vehicle or working with other mechanisms. The drug does not affect the ability to drive vehicles and complex mechanisms when used in recommended doses.
Children. It is not recommended to use the drug in newborns under the age of 3 months.
For the treatment of newborns older than 3 months and children under 1 year, the drug is used only as prescribed by a doctor.
Farmazolin 0.05% p.r. is indicated for children under 6 years of age.
Farmazolin 0.1% p.r. is indicated for children older than 6 years.
Interactions
Farmazolin interacts with other drugs only in the presence of a resorptive effect. adrenomimetic drugs of other groups enhance the effect of Farmazolin. adrenolytics and sympatholytics, calcium antagonists weaken its effect. the drug enhances the hypertensive effect of tricyclic antidepressants and MAO inhibitors on the cardiovascular system.
Overdose
With too frequent instillation or use of the drug of increased concentration, symptoms of overdose may appear in the form of headache, dry nose, nausea, depression, increased appetite, and short-term visual impairment. it is necessary to stop using the drug and take antagonist drugs: sympatholytics and α-adrenoblockers (phentolamine, tropafen), symptomatic therapy. if the drug is accidentally drunk, it is necessary to wash the stomach, take laxatives and enterosorbents, treat with α-adrenoceptor blockers, symptomatic therapy.
Storage conditions
In the original packaging in a place protected from light at a temperature of 15 to 25 °C. do not use the drug after the expiration date indicated on the package.
