Prostalad is a drug for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Use for prevention and as part of complex treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in the initial stage of the disease (with difficulty urinating) and urinary tract infections.

Composition

  • active ingredient: 1 bottle (jar) contains tinctures of medicinal plants [St. John’s wort herb (Hyperici herba), Canadian goldenrod herb (Solidaginis canadensis herba), buckthorn herb (Bursae pastoris herba), common burdock herb (Agrimoniae eupatoriae herba), arnica flowers (Arnicae flos), marigold flowers (Calendulae flos), valerian roots (Valerianae radix), purple echinacea roots (Echinaceae purpureae radix)] (1:4.4) (extractant ethanol 70%) – 100 ml;
  • excipients: none, except for the extractant.

Dosage form

Tincture for oral use.

Main physical and chemical properties: golden-brown liquid with a faint smell of valerian. During storage, precipitation is possible.

Contraindication

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug (including plants of the Asteraceae family); history of alcoholism, use of drugs containing alcohol, and alcohol itself; gastric and duodenal ulcers; cirrhosis of the liver; taking neuroleptics and tranquilizers; arterial hypertension, increased blood clotting, thromboembolism (in history); diabetes mellitus; tuberculosis; diseases of the leukocyte blood system (leukemia, agranulocytosis); rheumatism; connective tissue diseases (collagenoses); oncological diseases; multiple sclerosis and other autoimmune diseases, systemic lupus erythematosus, immunosuppression or immunodeficiency of various etiologies and other chronic viral diseases, HIV infections, AIDS; depression and other disorders accompanied by suppression of the central nervous system.

Method of application

Adult men should take the drug orally, 1 teaspoon 2 times a day, previously diluted in 50 ml of water. The duration of the treatment course is up to 3 months.

Application features

During treatment with the drug, regular monitoring of the function of the genitourinary system is required.

For peptic ulcer disease and gastritis with high acidity, use together with antacids and antispasmodics.

The medicine contains ethanol.

Overdose

In case of overdose, the following symptoms occur.

From the side of the central nervous system: drowsiness, depression, insomnia, sleep disorders, increased excitability of the nervous system, headache, dizziness, general weakness, decreased hearing and vision acuity, palpitations, mental agitation.

On the part of the digestive system: diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain; bitter taste in the mouth, unpleasant sensations in the liver area.

From the side of the hematopoietic system: increased activity of the blood coagulation system.

The above symptoms resolve on their own within 24 hours after discontinuation of the drug.

In case of overdose, the drug should be discontinued. Treatment is symptomatic.

Adverse reactions

In some cases, with hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, allergic reactions are possible, including skin rashes, itching, hyperemia, skin edema, angioedema, urticaria, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, anaphylactic shock. With prolonged use – lowering blood pressure, hypercoagulation; difficulty breathing, bronchospasm with obstruction, bronchial asthma, dizziness; arterial hypotension; nausea; vomiting; dry mouth, abdominal pain; constipation or diarrhea. There have been isolated reports of a possible connection with autoimmune diseases (disseminated encephalomyelitis, erythema nodosum, immunothrombocytopenia, Evans syndrome, Sjögren-Larsen syndrome with impaired tubular renal function). With prolonged use (more than 8 weeks), leukopenia may occur; suppression of emotional reactions, drowsiness, decreased performance; dizziness, headache; polyuria; sweating, chills; photosensitivity (UV radiation should be avoided during treatment).

Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions

The drug should not be used in combination with neuroleptics, tranquilizers, hypnotics and drugs containing alcohol.

Prostalad is not recommended for use simultaneously with drugs with hepatotoxic effects, such as amiodarone, methotrexate, ketoconazole, steroid drugs. The tincture has the ability to potentiate the effects of cardiac, sedative, analgesic and antispasmodic drugs. It is not recommended for use in patients taking anticoagulants, antibiotics, sulfonamides, contraceptives, hypotensive calcium channel blockers, female sex hormones, hypocholesterolemic drugs (statins), cardiac glycosides. Due to its immunostimulating effect, echinacea may reduce the effectiveness of drugs that have an immunosuppressive effect.
