Decamethoxin – the active pharmaceutical ingredient of the drug – is a quaternary ammonium compound from the group of cationic surfactants. The bond of decamethoxin with the phosphate groups of lipids of the microbial plasmolemma disrupts its permeability and leads to the destruction of the bacterial cell.
Decamethoxine is characterized by a wide range of antibacterial activity. The following microorganisms are sensitive to the drug:
- staphylococci, including strains of Staphylococcus aureus resistant to penicillin;
- streptococci;
- corynebacteria (including the diphtheria pathogen);
- Stomatococcus spp.;
- Enterobacteriaceae;
- Pseudomonas;
- spore-forming bacteria;
- the simplest;
- yeast-like fungi (especially Candida albicans);
- dermatophytes;
- viruses.
Effects inherent to decamethoxine:
- bactericidal;
- fungicidal;
- sporocidal;
- inhibition of Corynebacterium diphtheriae exotoxin activity;
- increasing the sensitivity of microorganisms to the action of antibiotics.
Decamethoxine does not affect the specific and nonspecific reactivity of the body’s immune system.
Indication
Diseases of the oral cavity, pharynx, larynx (for topical use as part of complex therapy):
- tonsillitis;
- pharyngitis;
- laryngitis;
- gingivitis;
- stomatitis;
- periodontitis;
- candidal lesions of the oral mucosa;
- angina (initial stage).
Carrier of pathogenic Staphylococcus spp., C. diphtheriae, Candida spp. (For the purpose of sanitation of the oral cavity, pharynx, nasopharynx).
After surgical operations in the oral cavity, pharynx, larynx (to prevent infectious complications).
Composition
1 tablet contains: decamethoxine 0.2 mg.
Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to decamethoxine or other components of the drug.
Method of application
After rinsing the mouth, the buccal route of administration of the drug is used (the tablet should be in the mouth until completely dissolved). Adults – 1 tablet 4 to 6 times a day after meals. Avoid eating and drinking for 1 hour after using the drug. Duration of treatment – ≤1 week.
Special instructions
In order to increase the content of decamethoxin in saliva, it is necessary to swallow it as rarely as possible during the process of resorption of the drug.
Simultaneous use of the drug with various types of oropharyngeal rinses is not recommended.
Use of the drug for more than 1 week may contribute to the development of microbial imbalance in the pharynx.
For patients with diabetes, it is necessary to take into account the presence of sugar in the composition of the drug.
Pregnancy
Clinical studies of the safety of the drug in pregnant women and during breastfeeding have not been conducted. During pregnancy, taking decamethoxine is not recommended. If it is necessary to use decamethoxine, breastfeeding should be discontinued.
Children
There is no clinical data on the use of the drug (efficacy and safety) in the specified age group.
Drivers
Information is missing.
Overdose
Data is missing.
Side effects
Allergic reactions (including skin rashes); itching of the skin.
After dissolving the tablet, increased salivation is possible.
Interaction
The antibacterial effect of decamethoxin is enhanced when it is used simultaneously with antibiotics and antimicrobial agents that have a systemic effect.
Storage conditions
At a temperature ≤25 °C in the original packaging.
