Tantum Verde Oral Spray is a fast-acting solution for relieving pain and inflammation in the mouth and throat. Each milliliter of the spray contains 1.5 mg of benzydamine hydrochloride, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that effectively reduces pain, swelling, and discomfort caused by conditions such as sore throat, gingivitis, stomatitis, and mouth ulcers.

Pharmacological properties

Benzydamine is an NSAID with analgesic and anti-exudative effects. when applied topically, benzydamine acts as a disinfectant. its effectiveness when applied locally is due to the ability to penetrate the epithelial layer and reach effective concentrations in inflamed tissues.

When applied topically in the recommended doses, benzydamine is absorbed by the mucous membrane, but its concentration in the blood plasma is so low that it does not have a pharmacological effect.

Benzydamine is excreted from the body mainly with urine in the form of inactive metabolites or conjugation products.

Indication

Symptomatic treatment of inflammatory diseases of the oropharynx; pain due to gingivitis, stomatitis, pharyngitis; in dentistry – after tooth extraction and for preventive purposes.

Application

R-r. using a measuring cap, measure 15 ml of Tantum Verde solution and rinse the oral cavity with undiluted or diluted (15 ml of the solution can be diluted with 15 ml of water) drug. rinsing is carried out 2-3 times a day. Do not exceed the recommended dose.

Spray. Before use, it is necessary to install the nozzle.

When you press the spray pump, an aerosol is formed, which contains 1 dose – 0.17 ml, which corresponds to 0.255 μg of benzydamine hydrochloride.

Dosage. Adults: 4-8 sprays 2-6 times a day.

Children (6-12 years old): 4 sprays 2-6 times a day.

Children (4-6 years old): 1 spray for every 4 kg of body weight, up to a maximum dose equivalent to 4 sprays 2-6 times a day.

Do not exceed recommended doses.

Contraindication

Hypersensitivity to the active substance or other components of the drug.

R-r – children’s age up to 12 years.

Spray – children’s age up to 4 years.

Side effects

There are no reports of adverse reactions when using the drug in recommended doses.

Sometimes there is a feeling of numbness or burning in the place of application, which is associated with the presence of ethanol in the composition of the drug. In some cases, allergic reactions may occur – skin rash, dry mouth, laryngospasm, bronchospasm, photosensitivity, angioedema, as well as swelling and discoloration of the tongue, change in taste, paresthesias in the oral cavity, itching, urticaria.

Special instructions

If a burning sensation occurs when applying the solution, it must be diluted with water beforehand.

Ulcers on the mucous membrane of the mouth and pharynx were observed in some patients. If there is no improvement in the patient’s condition, you should consult a doctor (dentist).

If the symptoms of the disease have not decreased within 3 days, the feasibility of further treatment with the drug is determined by the doctor.

Benzydamine is not recommended for patients with increased sensitivity to salicylic acid or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

The use of the drug can cause bronchospasm in patients with asthma or a history of asthma. Such patients should be warned about this.

Long-term treatment with benzydamine can lead to sensitization symptoms. In this case, the treatment should be stopped and alternative therapy should be considered.

Tantum Verde contains methylparaben, which can cause allergic reactions (including remote ones).

For athletes: the use of drugs containing ethyl alcohol can give a positive result during doping control.

The period of pregnancy and breastfeeding. Studies on the use of the drug during pregnancy and breastfeeding have not been conducted, so it is not recommended to use the drug during this period.

Children. The drug in the form of a solution should not be used in children under the age of 12 due to the possibility of swallowing the solution while rinsing the oral cavity. The drug in the form of a spray is not used in children under 4 years of age.

Influence on the ability to drive vehicles or work with complex mechanisms. Local use of benzydamine in recommended doses does not change the ability to drive vehicles or work with complex mechanisms.

Interaction with other medicinal products was not reported.

Overdose

There have been no reports of overdosage of benzydamine when applied topically.

However, it is known that benzydamine in the form of a solution can cause excitement, convulsions, tremors, nausea, increased sweating, ataxia, vomiting when accidentally ingested in high doses (hundreds of times higher than the therapeutic dose), especially in children. Such an acute overdose requires immediate gastric lavage, restoration of water-electrolyte balance, symptomatic treatment, and adequate hydration.
