Dolaren gel is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug for external use, intended for pain relief, reduction of inflammation and swelling in muscles and joints. It contains diclofenac, menthol and methyl salicylate: together they provide a double effect – cooling and pain relief. The gel texture is quickly absorbed, leaving no traces, and delivers the active ingredients directly to the focus of inflammation. Suitable for arthritis, radiculitis, myositis, sports injuries and back pain.

Composition

The gel contains:

  • diclofenac sodium — 10 mg (in the form of diclofenac diethylamine) — relieves inflammation and pain;
  • methyl salicylate — 100 mg — enhances blood circulation and enhances the analgesic effect;
  • Menthol — 50 mg — cools and helps relieve feelings of heaviness and tension.

Additional components provide a convenient texture and stability of the drug: benzyl alcohol, linseed oil, carbomer 940, diethylamine, propylene glycol, disodium edetate, sodium methylparaben, sodium bisulfite, butylhydroxytoluene, butylhydroxyanisole, hypromellose, purified water.

Contraindication

Despite its effectiveness, the drug has a number of contraindications – situations in which its use may be dangerous. Check if these apply to you:

  • allergy to diclofenac or other components of the gel;
  • asthma, hives, runny nose, or swelling after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs — even if it was a long time ago;
  • damaged skin at the site of application: abrasions, cuts, irritation;
  • the last trimester of pregnancy;
  • exacerbation of gastric or duodenal ulcer;
  • the period before and after heart surgery;
  • children under 14 years old.

Method of application

Adults and children over 14 years of age should apply a thin layer of 2-4 g of gel (a strip of 4-8 cm) to the skin 2-3 times a day and rub in lightly.

The average daily dose is 10 g of gel, which corresponds to 100 mg of diclofenac sodium.

The medicine should be applied to intact skin, avoiding contact with eyes and mucous membranes.

Application features

Even when used externally, it is important to remember that Dolaren is still a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). This means that it requires reasonable caution, especially if you are already taking other NSAIDs orally.

Please note:

  • combination with other NSAIDs (including tablets) may increase the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding.

The risk is especially high with prolonged use, large doses, and:

  • in elderly patients;
  • if there is a history of ulcers;
  • with blood clotting disorders;
  • when taking anticoagulants, glucocorticoids, alcohol.

If you are not sure whether you can use Dolaren, it is best to consult a doctor.

Pregnant women

While expecting a baby, you should be especially careful with any medication. Dolaren gel is no exception.

In the first and second trimesters, it can be used only when really necessary, on limited areas of the skin and for a short time.

In the third trimester, the gel is contraindicated, as it can affect the course of labor and the development of the baby – in particular, cause weakness of labor, pulmonary hypertension in the fetus, or premature closure of the ductus arteriosus.

During pregnancy, be sure to consult a doctor before using even an external remedy.

Children

Contraindicated for children under 14 years of age.

Drivers

Data is missing.

Overdose

Overdose is unlikely due to the low absorption of diclofenac into the systemic bloodstream when applied topically.

Side effects

Although Dolaren gel acts locally and is usually well tolerated, in some cases undesirable skin and allergic reactions are possible.

The skin may react with: rash, itching, redness, peeling, dryness, burning or blistering. Manifestations of eczema, dermatitis (including contact), erythema, papules, pustules, skin swelling, photosensitivity reactions and even bullous dermatitis are possible.

Sometimes there is a pustular rash associated with infection.

Rarely, but the development of hypersensitivity reactions is possible: urticaria, angioedema, difficulty breathing (shortness of breath).

If any unusual skin symptoms or signs of allergy appear, it is best to discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor.

Storage conditions

Store in the original packaging at a temperature not exceeding 25°C.

Keep out of reach of children.

Do not freeze.
