Ketoconazole is a synthetic imidazoledioxolane derivative that exhibits fungicidal and fungistatic activity against dermatophytes such as Trichophyton sp., Epidermophyton sp., Microsporum sp., and yeasts such as Candida sp. and Malassezia furfur (Pityrosporum ovale).
