Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics. The properties of the drug are characterized by its individual components: neomycin sulfate is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that has a bactericidal effect by blocking the function of bacterial ribosomes in a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms: corynebacterium spp., staphylococcus spp., mycobacterium tuberculosis, enterococcus faecium, escherichia coli, enterobacter aerogenes, haemophilus influenzae, klebsiella pneumoniae, ptoteus vulgaris, etc.; polymyxin B sulfate is a polypeptide antibiotic that has a bactericidal effect mainly on gram-negative flora, especially pseudomonas aeruginosa; strains of E. coli, schigellae, klebsiellae, pasteurellae, serratiae, staphylococcus spp., enterobacter, salmonellae, haemophilus, bordetella are also sensitive. polymyxin B disrupts the osmotic resistance of bacterial membranes, and is also active against pathogens that are in the resting stage. Nystatin is a polyene antibiotic that has a fungicidal or fungistatic effect by binding to ergosterol of the cytoplasmic membrane of fungi. It is active against Candida spp., Histoplasma spp., Coccidioides spp., Cryptococcus spp., Aspergillus, Blastomyces dermatidis. Resistance to the active ingredients of Polygynax develops rarely and slowly.
Dimethylpolysiloxane (dimethicone 1000), contained in the drug as an excipient, is an organic compound with a high molecular weight that has enveloping properties, anti-inflammatory, reparative and antipruritic effects, improves trophic processes in the vaginal mucosa, and also prevents the penetration of the active components of the drug into the mucous membrane.
Pharmacokinetics: Not studied.
Indication
Polygynax
Treatment of vaginitis caused by microorganisms sensitive to the drug, including:
- bacterial vaginitis caused by banal pyogenic microflora;
- recurrent nonspecific vaginitis;
- vaginitis caused by fungi of the genus Candida;
- vaginitis caused by mixed infection.
In order to prevent infectious complications, Polygynax is recommended to be used before any surgical intervention on the genitals, before abortion, when installing an intrauterine system, before and after diathermocoagulation of the cervix, before conducting an intrauterine and intraurethral examination, and before childbirth.
Polygynax Virgo
Treatment of vaginitis, vulvovaginitis, bacterial, fungal or mixed cervicitis caused by flora sensitive to the components of the drug, in virgins.
Application
Polygynax is prescribed to adults vaginally, 1 capsule per day in the evening before bedtime. The course of treatment is 12 days. The preventive course is 6 days. The drug can be used during menstruation.
Polygynax Virgo is prescribed 1 capsule in the evening before bedtime for 6 consecutive days. It is necessary to cut the pointed end of the capsule with scissors and insert the contents of the capsule vaginally. Do not stop treatment during menstruation.
Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
Side effects
When using the drug in recommended doses, the risk of side effects is minimal. Side effects of aminoglycosides are very rarely observed with vaginal use. With local use of the drug, allergic reactions (anaphylactic shock, urticaria), local irritation reactions and contact dermatitis occur in isolated cases.
Special instructions
To avoid transmission of the disease, the patient should be warned about using separate personal hygiene products (washcloth, towel, etc.), wearing underwear made of natural cotton, not using sanitary tampons during treatment, not using contraceptive caps and latex condoms, and not using spermicides.
To prevent reinfection, simultaneous treatment of the sexual partner is necessary.
Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. In clinical practice, no teratogenic and fetotoxic effects of Polygynax have been noted. Monitoring of pregnancies to study all possible side effects is insufficient to exclude all risks.
Therefore, use during pregnancy is possible only as prescribed by a doctor in cases where the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus/child.
If necessary, use of the drug during lactation should be discontinued.
Children. In pediatric practice, a special dosage form is used – Polygynax Virgo.
The ability to influence the reaction speed when driving vehicles or working with other mechanisms. Does not affect.
Interactions
The drug may inhibit the effect of local spermicidal contraceptives. It should be borne in mind that Polygynax, when used simultaneously with a latex condom, increases the risk of the latter breaking.
Overdose
Not reported.
Storage conditions
At a temperature not exceeding 25 °C.
