Pharmacological properties

The active substance of the drug is phenylbutazone – an NSAID, which also has antipyretic and analgesic effects. Phenylbutazone inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins, thereby reducing inflammatory reactions in tissues.

Phenylbutazone inhibits the synthesis of ATP-dependent mucopolysaccharides. It also affects the excretion of uric acid by reducing the reabsorption of uric acid in the tubules.

Entry into the systemic bloodstream is insignificant when applied topically.

Indication

Skin damage caused by mechanical trauma or chemical burns; burns of the I-II degree, occupying a small area of ​​the skin surface, sunburn. inflammation of the skin at the site of intravenous or intramuscular injections, insect bites. inflammation of the hemorrhoidal node. traumatic injuries of soft tissues, local edema, hematomas, muscle and tendon sprains, phantom pain after limb amputation. local therapy of superficial thrombophlebitis as an adjunct to anticoagulant therapy. as an additional therapy for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, synovitis, tendonitis, tendovaginitis.

Application

Adults and children over 14 years of age should apply the ointment to the affected area of ​​skin in a thin layer without rubbing in 2-3 times a day.

Elderly patients do not need a special regimen of use.

Contraindication

Hypersensitivity to phenylbutazone or any component of the drug. history of asthma or allergic reaction (allergic rhinitis, urticaria) after using acetylsalicylic acid or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. for the treatment of deep vein thrombosis of the extremities. use of the drug under a closed bandage. use of the drug in the eyes, around the eyes, on mucous membranes, on open bone fractures, open wounds. eczema or other skin diseases treated with corticosteroids. simultaneous use with other drugs containing phenylbutazone. children under 14 years of age. pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Side effects

With topical application of NSAIDs, local side effects may primarily occur, but depending on the amount of phenylbutazone that enters the body, systemic side effects may develop.

Blood and lymphatic system: the most dangerous may be agranulocytosis, in addition to which aplastic anemia and thrombocytopenia may develop.

Immune system: hypersensitivity reactions (including erythema, bronchial asthma attacks, Stevens-Johnson syndrome).

Metabolism: fluid retention in the body.

CNS: dizziness, headache.

Respiratory system: bronchospasm, asthma.

Digestive system: nausea, vomiting, gastric or duodenal ulcer, gastric bleeding, perforation, pancreatitis.

Hepatobiliary system: liver dysfunction may occur.

Skin: rash, itching, skin redness, erythema, exfoliative dermatitis, photosensitivity.

Kidneys and urinary system: impaired renal function, especially in elderly patients and patients with renal pathology.

Systemic disorders: edema.

Special instructions

If irritation occurs, therapy should be discontinued and the drug replaced with an alternative agent.

The drug is not suitable for the treatment of deep vein thrombophlebitis of the extremities.

After applying the ointment, you must wash your hands thoroughly.

The area of ​​skin to which the ointment is applied should be protected from direct sunlight to prevent photosensitivity.

Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The drug is contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The use of NSAIDs may cause congenital abnormalities in the fetus.

Children. The use of the ointment is contraindicated in children under 14 years of age.

Ability to influence the reaction rate when driving vehicles or working with other mechanisms. There is no evidence that phenylbutazone affects the ability to drive vehicles or other mechanisms, but the possibility of dizziness should be taken into account (see Side effects).

Interactions

There is no data on the interaction of phenylbutazone with other drugs when used topically.

The simultaneous use of the ointment with other NSAIDs, the active substance of which binds to blood plasma proteins in large quantities, should be avoided.

Overdose

There are no data on cases of overdose when using the ointment. Due to the low systemic absorption of the drug, cases of overdose are unlikely.

Treatment: in case of accidental overdose of NSAIDs, therapy is supportive and symptomatic.

Storage conditions
