Pharmacological properties
Clotrimazole (diphenyl-(2-chlorophenyl)-1-imidazolylmethane) belongs to the group of imidazole antifungal drugs. It has a wide spectrum of action: effective against dermatophytes, yeast fungi, and has an antibacterial effect on staphylococci and streptococci.
Indication
Skin mycoses caused by dermatomycetes, blastomycetes, mold fungi; dermatomycoses with secondary infection (mycoses of the feet, nails, etc.); urogenital candidiasis.
Application
It is prescribed in the form of a solution for external use and vaginal tablets.
The solution is applied to the affected areas 2-3 times a day and rubbed in; the course of treatment is up to 4 weeks or more. In case of mycoses of the feet (to avoid relapses), the treatment is continued for 3 weeks after the symptoms of the disease disappear. Before applying the drug, the feet are washed with warm soapy water and dried (especially the interdigital spaces).
For the treatment of urogenital candidiasis, 1 tablet is inserted into the vagina at night, and the vulva and perineum are lubricated with a 1% solution of clotrimazole. In addition, a 1% solution of the drug is instilled into the urethra for 6 days.
Contraindication
Pregnancy period.
