Composition
Synulox 250 mg tablets are round, pink tablets with a score line on one side and the inscription “Synulox” on the other side.
Each tablet contains 200 mg of amoxicillin in the form of amoxicillin trihydrate and 50 mg of clavulanic acid in the form of sodium clavulanate.
They are produced packaged in 10 pieces in foil strips, which are placed in cardboard boxes.
Pharmacological properties
Amoxicillin is a broad-spectrum semisynthetic penicillin that has a rapid bactericidal effect on many gram-positive (Streptococcus spp., Staphylococcus spp., Corynebacterium spp.) and gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Bordetella bronchiseptica, Proteus spp., Pasteurella, Klebsiella), including b-lactamase-producing strains. Resistance to b-lactam antibacterial drugs is usually due to the ability of microorganisms to produce b-lactamase – an enzyme that destroys the b-lactam ring of the antibiotic before it can affect the bacterial cell. Clavulanic acid, which is part of Sinulox, inactivates b-lactamase and thereby restores the sensitivity of the bacterium to the bactericidal action of amoxicillin in concentrations that are easily achieved in animal tissues after administration of the drug.
Indications for use
It is prescribed to dogs and cats for the treatment of infections of bacterial etiology: skin and soft tissue diseases (abscesses, pyoderma, inflammation of the paraanal glands, gingivitis, stomatitis, etc.), respiratory diseases, diseases of the genitourinary system and enteritis.
It is recommended to consult a veterinarian before use.
Method of administration and doses
Sinulox 250 mg tablets are administered to the sick animal directly into the mouth or crushed together with food at a dose of 12.5 mg per 1 kg of animal weight (for example, if the animal weighs 26-35 kg – 1.5 tablets of Sinulox 250 mg, if the animal weighs more than 50 kg – 3 tablets of Sinulox 250 mg) 2 times a day for 5-7 days.
If the disease is difficult to treat, especially in respiratory infections, you can increase the dose of Sinulox by 2 times (up to 25 mg per 1 kg of animal weight) twice a day or shorten the intervals between administration of the drug.
In the case of chronic or difficult-to-treat diseases, which are often accompanied by significant tissue damage, a longer course of therapy with Sinulox is recommended: the duration of treatment for chronic skin diseases and chronic cystitis is 10-28 days, for respiratory diseases – 8-10 days.
Side effect
Allergic reactions are possible in hypersensitive animals. With proper use and dosage, side effects are not observed.
Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug. Sinulox, like other penicillin antibiotics, should not be administered to rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters and gerbils. The drug should be used with great caution in other species of small herbivores.
Application features
No special precautions are required. The drug is not indicated for pseudomonal infection. Sinulox tablets 250 mg can be used as an alternative to injectable forms of antibiotics in the treatment of small animals.
Storage conditions
In a dry place, out of reach of children, at a temperature not exceeding 25 ºС.
Expiration date
2 years.
